At this stage it is common to juggle a lot at once: a master's degree, preparing for public exams, courses, personal life and even other jobs. That is why having control over your calendar is not a luxury, it is a necessity.

From the app you can pick the shifts that fit your schedule: mornings, afternoons or nights; single days or more intense weeks; busier periods or times when you would rather slow down and focus on your priorities.

If you have not worked your first shift yet, you can start very gradually: choose a facility close to home, a schedule you feel comfortable with and a unit or speciality that gives you confidence. There is no obligation to take on a minimum number of shifts, you set your own availability. This flexibility gives you something very valuable early in your career: professional progress without giving up your studies, your rest or your personal life.

Every shift is a chance to learn

The first few years in nursing are a process of discovery, an opportunity to find out what you are most passionate about. Little by little you will find your ideal setting, whether that is inpatient wards, emergency care, geriatrics or another, and the type of facility that best matches the way you work.

Livo gives you the chance to get to know different care settings: hospitals, clinics, care homes, diagnostic centres and other healthcare or social care facilities. In each one you will find different teams, protocols and working rhythms, and that diversity becomes hands-on practice that complements your training.

Try before you decide: find the place that really suits you

As well as one-off shifts, Livo includes more stable job offers that let you take the next step whenever you think the time is right.

The difference is that, before accepting an offer, you may already know the facility from previous shifts. That way you are not deciding on the basis of an interview and a job description alone, but on real experience: you have seen how the team works, how patients are treated, the care workload and the way work is organised.

This reduces the risk of “getting it right or getting it wrong” with your first long term decision. You can explore, weigh things up and, when you find a place that matches your expectations and values, take the step with far more clarity.

What you need to get started, specifically

The requirements are the same for a new graduate as for someone with twenty years in practice: an official qualification and current professional registration. Livo currently works with three categories, nursing, nursing assistants and doctors, and verifies every profile before enabling it, so there is a documentation check between signing up and the first available shift.

Signing up and using the platform are free for the professional. There is no membership fee, no commission on the shift, and no minimum volume to keep the account active.

Payment for each shift is handled by the contracting facility, on the terms agreed between the parties, and follows each hospital's own calendar: usually at the end of the month or the start of the next. Livo facilitates the connection and the administrative follow-up, but is not the employer.

It is worth being clear about cancellations from the start, because they affect your relationship with facilities. If you cannot attend a confirmed shift, you have to give notice as early as possible so an alternative can be found. Unjustified late cancellations can lead to temporary penalties on your account.
